Storytelling & Dementia
As part of her MA Research, Cheryl worked with Louie & her family, creating a beautiful dementia friendly resource which was distributed throughout libraries and talking book services in Wales and the UK & is featured on the People's Collection Wales in Welsh Language.
Cheryl was subsequently commissioned to further her research with Swansea University as part of the National 'A Better Life' Campaign, publishing 'The Memoirs of Strang the Strong' with Georgie Muscles, a talking book entitled 'Singing with Betti & Friends' with Betti Williams at Plas Y Mor Day Service and a published ethnographic Evaluatory Report entitled 'The Storyteller's Story'.
The body of work won Cheryl a GOLD National Care Award for Excellence in Dementia. and an Outstanding Contribution Award from the University of South Wales
Following the Award, Cheryl went onto create Sound Memories Dementia Friendly Radio where older volunteers share their life stories and create environmental sound maps, helping each other to reminisce and to promote memory.
